About Blog M

A bit of history, and a glimpse of the future

The genesis of the blog

The Blok M web site was born long before the era of popular blogging, but it was, in all but name, a blog - a personal diary of my life in and around the bars and discos of Blok M. So now those distant records have been given a new home in a Wordpress blog.

The grand plan is to transfer all the archive material from the web site into the blog. This has already been done with the Updates and Diary Entries, which are now blog pages that can be found under the “Blok M Chronicles” listing.

Next in line is the heart of the web site - the descriptions of the girls, the guys, and the bars. It’s very much a work in progress, and will take weeks, if not months, before completion.

The Blok M web site

Here’s the original text from the front page:

Blok M - for those who don’t know it - is a little corner of South Jakarta, a business and shopping quarter that is home to a motley collection of bars, discos and night clubs - click for maps. It’s well known to all the Jakarta expats, and anyone visiting the city who wants a real taste of the famous Jakarta night-life must put it at the top of their itinerary.

This site provides all the information you need to enjoy the many delights of Blok M - without being disappointed because you miss something, or get ripped off. It contains, as the cliché goes, “everything you wanted to know, but were afraid to ask”.

  1. I have been following the Blok M website for a number of months and have enjoyed it. I was in Jakarta three times latet last year for a total of about 2-1/2 months and never made it to the clubs in Blok M. I sure will be sure and visit there the next time I am in Jakarta. Keep up the good reading.

  2. Just a word to tell you how much I have enjoyed the literary quality of your contributions, as well as their informative substance.
Rarely have I feasted on so much high-caliber linguistic fodder in my life on the web. Do not know what your current line of business is, but you ‘ve certainly got the stuff to become a 21st century Hemingway of the East. Too bad this talent may not pay for your weekly (?) foray into the booze and chick universe of BlokM.
